More than 15 million cases of COVID-19 worldwide as infections surge

The global tally of coronavirus has continued to surge with the number of infected people surpassing 15 million on Thursday.

The United States was still the worst hit country with the latest tally at 3.9 million cases.

The virus has been rapidly spreading across the Americas, including Brazil and other Latin American countries with the continent accounting for more than half the world’s deaths.

In total, more than 620,000 people have been killed by the coronavirus but health experts believe the true extent of infection is likely underreported.
