Greg Hunt has warned hugging someone not from your household could "sadly risk their life" as he calls for continued vigilance from all Australians as coronavirus numbers rise.
The Health Minister warned "each one of us" through our actions could "save a life or inadvertently risk a life".
"It could be your mum or your dad or your grandparents. They’re the people who could be most at risk from inadvertent transmission," Mr Hunt said.
"What has occurred in Victoria is an acceleration of community transmission levels.
"It is a serious situation in Melbourne. It is a level we’re all concerned about, but right now, our task and responsibility is to give people advice and legitimate support."
